Williamson Trip

We finally got on the road to Williamson after talking to the insurance companies and getting Shelby's medicine. We hoped to reach the campsite about noon. We'd munch down some lunch and then hike to the rock to do some climbs. Little did we know...

...that we'd run into a forest fire just southwest of Wrightwood. Strike three! The forest fire was an interesting experience. We weren't that close (maybe three or four miles away), yet the sun was blotted out and ash was falling from the sky. I wouldn't want to repeat the experience.

Here you can see the smoke from the fire rising over a ridge to the southwest. Fire trucks of various shapes drove up and down California 2 dealing with the fire. Helicopters and airplanes were buzzing around the sky. When the trip was over, we learned that the fire had reached within 2.5 miles of Wrightwood.
