Day 13 (1/3): It's our last night in New Zealand . We are at another bed and breakfast, this one, Devonport
Villa, is a beautiful Victorian in Devonport which is northeast of Auckland.
Today we left Mount Maunganui to drive to Auckland. Part of the drive was on
New Zealand's Pacific Coast Highway. This stretch was a small, winding road
with splendid views of the countryside and coast. We stopped in Kaiaua (don't
ask me to pronounce it) for some greasies, Kiwi for fish and chips. Once we got
to Devonport, we hopped on a ferry to Auckland. In Auckland, we went around the
America's Cup village and the Viaduct Basin where they were preparing for the
arrival of the Volvo Ocean Race. After ogling a lot of really cool boats, we
headed to the Skytower. I believe the Skytower is the tallest structure in the
Southern Hemisphere. On the main observation level we enjoyed the views of our
surroundings. We also saw the Skyjump, a sort of controlled fall from the
Skytower. Plus, we saw the roof of the Mexican Café where we decided to
have dinner. The margaritas were pretty good and the food was fair, considering
we were halfway around the world. It was not a bad place to grab a bite to eat.
We returned to Devonport via the ferry and called it a night.
